Christmas Eve.

This Christmas season I find myself deeply weary. I’m weary of bullies and the power they wield in our society and around our world, especially this week. I’m devastated about learning of this shooting in NY of two of our most precious and fierce defenders. And as I sit at my mother’s hospital bed, I hate cancer—it’s an unyielding monster.

“Returning violence for violence multiplies violence, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” –Martin Luther King, Jr.

Don’t let this Christmas Eve be devoid of stars. Hear the angels sing—and be kind to each other. Kindness is not weakness. It’s one of the most courageous acts we can make on behalf of another human being.
