Have you ever heard of Story Corps.? It’s pretty darn cool. I just discovered it today thanks to TED Radio Hour, a new infatuation.

StoryCorps’ mission is to provide people of all background and beliefs with the opportunity to record, share, and preserve the stories of our lives.

“We do this to remind one another of our shared humanity, to strengthen and build the connections between people, to teach the value of listening, and to weave into the fabric of our culture the understanding that everyone’s story matters. At the same time, we are creating an invaluable archive for future generations.”

Here’s a delightful story that is just one of thousands. Sanitation workers Angelo Bruno and Eddie Nieves worked together for nearly ten years on the same garbage route in Manhattan’s West Village and became fixtures in the community. After 31 years on the job, Angelo retired. At StoryCorps, he talked with Eddie about the unexpected lessons he learned along the way and what he still misses about the job.
